John McCain is 71 years old and way too old to take on the Office of the President of the United States. Think about folks you know who are 70 years old. Can you imagine any of them taking on the most grueling public office in the world? When I hit 70 I don't want to be waking up at 5 am. every day to take on the challenges of the world. I want to be playing soulful songs on my guitar on a beach on Maui and contemplating God. Actually, that sounds good right about now! This is not age discrimination. This is logic and practicality. At this critical juncture in our Nation's history, can we afford to hire someone who may lack the required stamina and clarity of mind for the job?
Would you want a 71 year old surgeon doing microsurgery on your brain? Do you know of any 71 year old athletes winning major golf tournaments? Do you know of any 71 year old thought leaders who are driving innovation today? Most innovation occurs earlier in life. And the kind of experience I want driving my company peaks at 60. McCain is plenty smart and a war hero. I just think his age disqualifies him for the challenges of this particular job.
How about we round up aging experts to weigh in on the advisability of America hiring a 71 year old to run the largest and still most influential entity in the world: the U.S. of A. Assuming McCain made it to 75 years old, could he endure the rigors of running for a second term? Yes, it is possible. But why take the risk?
McCain is super vulnerable on the age/health issue and therefore so is America. The stats are not in his favor.
Ronald Reagan had Alzheimers by the end of his term, and we didn't even know it until hearings into Iran Contra during which he could not recall the name of a Cabinet member.
As Stephen Colbert would say, "America....wake up!"

the average at ascension for our 43 presidents is 54.8. average age at death is 70.4 (i should have removed those presidents that were executed if the point of mccain's age is centered around health, but i didn't). if we look at the last 5 presidents that have died & exclude kennedy (reagan, ford, nixon, johnson, & eisenhower) the average age at death was 81.8. so there is good chance mccain has 10+ years left, but how good will those years be & will the stress from this job not cause him problems sooner?
