Absorbtive Learning

So I'm learning Indian classical musical theory and practice. How? By absorbing the knowledge. Over the past few months I've engaged with the Indian classical music community in the Bay area, spend time with a teacher, attend Indian classical music concerts at the Sangati Center in San Francisco, and spend hours a day listening to recorded performances of hundreds of ragas by many Indian virtuosos....performances stunning in virtuosity while spiritually revealing.

I feel so comfortable in this musical environment, in fact, that it's almost a deja vu of an earlier and far simpler life when I was quite familiar and proficient in this music. I think too, it connects me to the culture of my Guru Sri Chinmoy in a subtle way and reminds me of the quiet, yet powerfully focused spirituality he inspired in me.

During the day the theory and practice of this music are revealed to me by great composers, instrumentalists and singers. While I sleep each night, the higher intelligence and logic I absorb from this music are informing my creative sensibilities, my calm, my ability to feel...really my entire being. It's a transformative experience of absorbtive learning.
