Aptera: This Could be Cool...

When I was a wide-eyed young kid exploring the GM Futurama exhibit at the New York World's Fair in Flushing Meadow Park, I expected to see a car like the Aptera appear by 1989. Heck, I fully expected hybrid flying/land-based cars by then. What did we end up with? In the ensuing decades that saw America invent the technologies for reaching far into outer space and mapping the humane genome, we ended up with the same gas guzzling cars. American automakers just simply shelved innovation for what? They're now all on the verge of bankruptcy.

So what's new on the car front? How about an electric car that will get 100 miles to a gallon? It's the Aptera...and it's arriving in California soon. About 4,000 people have paid $500 deposits to reserve a car. So if you're inclined for new wheels, this one could be cool.

They promised us all this stuff and it is nowhere to be found, save for a handful of startups.
